A broker is worth it when your case needs assessing, structuring and positioning across several lenders. It is not worth it when you have a simple, strong case, an existing banker who already knows you, and time to manage the process yourself. Anyone who tells you it is always worth it is selling.

The honest case against

You pay a success fee. If your financials are strong, your industry is uncomplicated, your existing bank already holds your accounts and you only need a standard facility, you may well get a good outcome on your own. There is no rule that says a business needs an intermediary.

The honest case for

The purpose of engaging a brokerage is not to submit another loan application. The value sits in three places:

  • Matching. Different banks have different qualifying criteria, credit appetites and restricted industries. A business that does not fit one lender may still suit another. Knowing which is which before you apply saves months.
  • Presentation. The same set of numbers can read as a risk or as a manageable case depending on how it is structured and what is addressed up front.
  • Process. Coordinating several lenders, chasing documents and answering credit queries is real work that comes out of your week if nobody else does it.

Where it matters most

Cases that are difficult to take to a bank directly. Weaker financial indicators. A specific credit concern that needs mitigating rather than hoping nobody notices. A director missing a year of personal tax documents. A previous rejection that needs to be understood before anyone applies again. None of this comes with a guarantee of approval, but it is exactly the kind of case where how it is handled changes the outcome.

The question to ask any broker

“What will you do before you submit anything?” If the answer is nothing, you do not need them. If the answer describes an assessment, a structure and a shortlist of lenders with reasons, that is the work you are paying for.

Talk to us about your case

Every business is different, and the only honest way to answer “can we get this funded” is to look at your numbers. Send us your company name, roughly how much you need and what it is for, and we will tell you whether there is a case worth building. Speak to us, or read how it works.
